In a late-night post on X on Tuesday (November 26, 2024), Eknath Shinde urged his party supporters to refrain from gathering in large numbers in Mumbai to show their backing for him. This appeal came amid mounting pressure from the Shiv Sena to reinstall Shinde as Chief Minister. Following the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s overwhelming victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, attention has now shifted to the next major decision—who will assume the Chief Minister’s role. With the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP securing 230 out of the 288 Assembly seats, discussions are underway to determine who will occupy the prestigious Chief Minister’s office on the sixth floor of Mantralaya in Mumbai.
Although speculations continue regarding the formula and potential candidates for the post, the final decision will be taken only after consulting the BJP-appointed Central observer, according to BJP sources.
