PM addressess West Bengal Rally

Date:

Highlighting the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (December 20, 2025) said that the people of West Bengal now need freedom from what he termed the “mahajungle-raj” prevailing in the State. Addressing a rally virtually from Taherpur in Nadia district, the Prime Minister linked the Bihar mandate to a broader political message for Bengal.

“Last month, the people of Bihar gave a huge mandate to the NDA. After the victory, I had said that the Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal. Bihar rejected jungle-raj for 20 years, and now the people of West Bengal are seeking freedom from mahajungle-raj,” Mr. Modi said.

Thousands of supporters had gathered at the rally venue, but the Prime Minister was unable to attend in person as the helicopter carrying him could not land due to dense fog. Addressing the crowd over the telephone, Mr. Modi apologised, saying adverse weather conditions prevented him from being physically present at the event.

During his speech, the Prime Minister accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of protecting “illegal infiltrators” in the State. Referring to posters bearing the slogan “Go Back Modi” in areas surrounding Taherpur, he alleged that while TMC leaders raise slogans against him, they remain silent on the issue of infiltration. “Infiltrators enjoy TMC patronage in Bengal. The Trinamool Congress is opposing SIR to prevent infiltrators from being identified,” he claimed.

Mr. Modi further accused the TMC government of obstructing development and creating hardships for the people of West Bengal. He said citizens were increasingly demanding a “double-engine government” for faster progress. “The ruling party cannot hold people to ransom, make them suffer, and stop Bengal’s development,” he said, adding that opposition from the TMC would not deter the BJP’s efforts in the State.
