PM Inaugurates Delhi-Dehradun Highway

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor on Tuesday, marking the launch of a major expressway aimed at making travel between the national capital and Uttarakhand faster and more efficient.

The 213-km corridor, built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between New Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to approximately two-and-a-half hours. Passing through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the corridor is set to strengthen connectivity, boosting tourism and trade in the region.

Ahead of the inauguration, the Prime Minister will visit Saharanpur to review a wildlife corridor, according to an official statement. At around 11:40 am, he will offer darshan and perform pooja at the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple. The formal inauguration is scheduled for around 12:30 pm at a public event, where he will also address a gathering, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The access-controlled six-lane expressway features 10 interchanges, three railway overbridges, four major bridges, and 12 wayside amenities designed to ensure smoother and safer travel.

An Advanced Traffic Management System has been integrated into the corridor to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow for commuters.

The project also incorporates several eco-sensitive features to minimise human-animal conflict. A 12-km-long elevated wildlife corridor—among the longest in Asia—has been constructed to facilitate the free movement of animals. Additionally, the project includes eight animal passes, two elephant underpasses measuring 200 metres each, and a 370-metre tunnel near the Daat Kali Temple.
