Rohith Vemula Not Dalit: Cops In Closure Report

Date:

The Telangana Police has submitted a closure report in the Rohith Vemula case, eight years after the government of Modi forced to clarify that it was not anti-Dalit following widespread protests and a political scandal over his suicide death. The police report claims that the University of Hyderabad student committed suicide out of dread of being discovered, in addition to the fact that his certificate was fake and he was not a member of the Scheduled Castes.
The Telangana Director General of Police later issued a statement stating they had chosen to look into the matter further, citing concerns expressed by Vemula’s family.

Appa Rao, the vice-chancellor of the University of Hyderabad at the time, and prominent members of the BJP, such as MLC N Ramchender Rao and former MP and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, were among the accused in the case. They have all been cleared of all charges.

Only ten days remain before Telangana’s 17 Lok Sabha seats go up for election in the fourth phase on May 13, having been filed on March 21. This is the closure report that was discovered on Friday. Previous to the Congress taking power, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi was in charge of Telangana.
