The Himachal Pradesh government was ordered by the Supreme Court on Thursday to release 137 cusecs of extra Yamuna water to the Hathinikund Barrage.
In order to prevent an acute water crisis in Delhi, a bench led by Justice PK Mishra declared the issue to be “an existential problem” and ordered the Haryana government to assist the discharge of water obtained from Himachal Pradesh to Wazirabad.
It also requested compliance affidavits be filed by Monday by the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
The Supreme Court stated that “Himachal Pradesh should release surplus water on June 7 with prior intimation to Haryana government.”
It requested that the administration of Delhi make sure that no water was wasted in the nation’s capital. “We are aware that because of the severe water
The Delhi Government should not waste water due to a shortage; instead, it should implement the recommendations made by the Upper Yamuna River Board,” the Bench stated.
In order to address the water problem in the nation’s capital, the Delhi administration filed a petition asking the Haryana government to release excess water that Himachal Pradesh had donated. This resulted in the order that was issued.
The Upper Yamuna River Board was directed by the highest court of June 3 to meet on June 5 with all relevant parties and to report back to them on the proposed measures to address the problem.
