EC notifies BJP about PM Narendra Modi’s rally in Rajasthan; Rahul Gandhi also implicates Congress

Date:

The Election Commission received complaints from the Congress and Left parties a few days ago alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “violated” the model code of conduct (MCC) during his speech in Banswara, Rajasthan, on April 21. In response, the poll body sent BJP president JP Nadda a notice requesting a response from the party by April 29.
In a separate correspondence, the poll panel asked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to respond to allegations made by the party’s leader, Rahul Gandhi, at a rally in Kerala by the same deadline. The BJP has lodged a complaint against Rahul’s statements, claiming that they were against the MCC norms.

The EC stated that prominent campaigners were expected to contribute to a “higher quality of discourse” in a letter to the president of the BJP.
