April 26 SC decision about the EVM system’s transparency for free and fair elections

Date:

On April 26, the Supreme Court is expected to rule on petitions for a more transparent voting process to guarantee free and fair elections.
The decision is made in tandem with the second round of voting in the Lok Sabha general elections.
In-depth hearings of petitions submitted by Arun Kumar Agarwal and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) asserting that the electronic voting machine (EVM) system was opaque and subject to manipulation were conducted by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta.
They had emphasised voters’ inalienable right to verify that their votes were cast correctly.
