BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis to be sworn in as Maharashtra CM

Date:

Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, according to sources. His name was finalized during the BJP’s core committee meeting on Wednesday, held ahead of the Maharashtra Legislature Party meet.

The core committee meeting was attended by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Fadnavis. Sitharaman and Rupani have been appointed as Central observers for the Legislature Party meeting.

Before the party meet, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition partners would meet Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to stake a claim to form the government.

The BJP achieved its best-ever performance in Maharashtra in the November 20 elections, winning 132 of the 288 Assembly seats. With its allies—the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction—the Mahayuti coalition commands a decisive majority of 230 seats in the Assembly.

The swearing-in ceremony is set to mark the beginning of a new government under Fadnavis, backed by the BJP’s strong mandate and alliance partners.
