In Mizoram, landslides and a collapsed stone quarry killed 25

Date:

An official reported that the event occurred at approximately six in the morning in a region on the southern fringes of the town of Aizawl, between Melthum and Hlimen. According to the report, a number of labor camps and homes collapsed under the force of the landslide, burying a number under rubble.

Fourteen bodies have been found so far. A six-year-old girl and a four-year-old child were among the dead in the stone quarry fall, according to a police officer. Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar of Aizawl stated that search efforts will go on till the entire area was cleaned.

Anil Shukla, the director general of police, stated earlier in the day that 17 remains had been found within the collapsed stone quarry. He stated that heavy rain was impeding rescue efforts at the scene, adding, “We suspect that six to seven persons are still trapped under debris.”
