Lok Sabha disrupted as BJP attempts to link Opposition to foreign investor

Date:

The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned twice on Thursday following a heated exchange over BJP member Nishikant Dubey’s remarks targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. During Zero Hour, Dubey raised an issue alleging that the Congress-led opposition had attempted to derail Parliament after a report by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) linked Rahul Gandhi to a US-based billionaire investor.

Dubey’s comments sparked strong protests from Congress members, who vocally objected to the allegations. The uproar led to the adjournment of the proceedings at noon until 2 pm. However, similar disruptions occurred when the House reconvened at 3 pm, prompting another adjournment.

In response to the protests, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the opposition’s behavior. He criticized their attire, saying the opposition members had come to Parliament wearing “colourful clothes” and were using such attire to create a spectacle outside of Parliament. Rijiju claimed that this “fashion show” approach lowered the dignity of the institution, and he reiterated that such disruptions would not yield positive results or votes for the opposition.

The day’s proceedings highlighted the deepening tension between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party, with the disruption over Dubey’s remarks being the latest flashpoint in an ongoing political standoff.
