The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President, with immediate effect. Nabin is currently serving as a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and holds the Road Construction portfolio.
An official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh stated that the appointment was approved by the party’s Parliamentary Board. “The BJP Parliamentary Board has appointed Shri Nitin Nabin, Minister, Government of Bihar, as the National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the order said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his elevation, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking leader who has carved a distinct identity within the organisation.
“He is a young and committed leader with rich organisational experience. His work as an MLA and minister in Bihar has been highly effective, and he has always worked with complete dedication to fulfil the aspirations of the people. He is known for his humility and strong grassroots connect,” the Prime Minister said. Expressing confidence in Nabin’s abilities, Modi added that his energy and commitment would further strengthen the party in the coming years.
A five-time MLA from Bihar and a member of the Kayastha community, Nitin Nabin is widely seen as a likely successor to incumbent BJP national president JP Nadda.
The appointment comes amid a broader organisational transition within the BJP. JP Nadda, who assumed office as national president in January 2020, has already completed his original term and was granted multiple extensions to lead the party through significant political milestones, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
JP Nadda also congratulated Nabin on his appointment, calling him a “dynamic BJP leader from Bihar” and wishing him a successful tenure.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nitin Nabin ji, the dynamic BJP leader from Bihar—the sacred land of knowledge and culture—and a minister in the Bihar government, on his appointment as the National Executive President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am confident that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and your leadership, the organisation will set new benchmarks in nation-building and public service,” Nadda said in a post on X.
Who is Nitin Nabin?
Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin hails from a family with deep political roots. He is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a senior BJP leader and former MLA. Nabin entered active politics following his father’s demise and steadily rose through the party ranks.
A five-time MLA from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna, Nabin first entered the Bihar Assembly through a by-election in 2006 and has retained the seat in every subsequent election in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. In the 2025 Assembly elections, he registered a decisive victory from Bankipur, winning by a margin of over 52,000 votes.
