SC to hear Kejri’s petition against ED arrest

Date:

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will present his case to the Supreme Court on Monday. The case challenges the Delhi High Court’s decision to uphold his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case involving the Delhi excise policy fraud.

Kejriwal’s plea is scheduled to be heard by a bench chaired by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who on April 15 sent notice to the ED over the petition. Kejriwal informed the Supreme Court on Saturday that the ED’s detention of him in this matter was a perfect example of how the ruling party had abused investigative powers to destroy the AAP and its leaders, which was its main political rival.

“Many things point to the ED’s arbitrariness, including the mode, manner, and time of the petitioner’s arrest when the Lok Sabha election schedule was announced and the Model Code of Conduct went into effect. This chronology proves that the petitioner was unlawfully detained with malicious intent and that there was no need for an arrest, Kejriwal argued.

The top court was informed by the Enforcement Department (ED) that Kejriwal is “the kingpin and key conspirator” of the Delhi excise “scam” and that the investigating officer has “formed the satisfaction” that he is guilty of money laundering due to his refusal to be questioned despite nine summonses.
