Raigunj: According to the family of a Congress supporter in ward 20 of the Raigunj municipality, a man was beaten for sitting in the Congress booth camp. Trinamul also reports that some EVM malfunctions have been reported from some booths in the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, specifically in Matigara-Naxalbari and Fansideowa.
Dr. Sukanto Majumdar, the BJP state president running from Balurghat, claims Trinamul is attempting to sway votes through financial inducements.
Fifteen years ago, Darjeeling became the colour of saffron when Jaswant Singh of the BJP, supported by the united Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, won the seat. This victory went against the national trend, as the Congress-dominated UPA led the party to a victorious comeback in Delhi.
