SC informs the ED may consider granting temporary bail to Kejriwal

Date:

Significantly, the Supreme Court stated on May 3 that, in light of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, it is inclined to consider awarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim release.

The AAP chief was given a warning by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, stating that while they are prepared to explore the option, “it may or may not grant interim bail.” These remarks were made during the Chief Minister’s appeal hearing in which he contested his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case involving the purported Delhi excise policy scam.

The Court had previously stated that the ED would have to provide an explanation for why Mr. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, just one week after the Model Code of Conduct.
